Emergency Preparedness Week

CHATPrepareYourSelflieHAM-KENT (May 4, 2016) – It’s that time of year again, Chatham-Kent emergency service responders will mark Emergency Preparedness Week with a display at the Home Depot, 8582 Pioneer Line, Chatham, on Saturday, May 7. The display will start at 10:00 a.m. and finish at 1:00 p.m. Participants include Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services; Chatham-Kent Police Service; Chatham-Kent EMS; Chatham-Kent OPP and the Canadian Red Cross. Emergency Preparedness Week is a national event coordinated by Public Safety Canada in collaboration with provincial and territorial governments and other partners.

“During a community emergency, it’s important that people know how to provide for themselves and their families for at least the first 72 hours,” said Alan DeVillaer, Assistant Chief of Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Management. “Every year, during Emergency Preparedness Week, we try to make that point to citizens as strongly as we can.”

We also encourage everyone to participate in this year’s focus on personal preparedness, using the tagline “Emergency preparedness starts with you. #PrepareYourSelfie.” Chatham-Kent residences are encouraged to ‘prepare their selfie,’ and share it via social media demonstrating how they are personally prepared for emergencies (e.g. customized emergency survival kit, etc.)
